Campsfield Immigrant Detention Centre is a place where innocent people are made to suffer. It has a 10-year history of brutality, suicide-attempts, hunger strikes, and
massive protests. In 2002 the Government finally admitted that it was "unsuited to the needs of the 21st century", and announced its closure. But instead, the Home Office has now sent Cherwell District Council a planning application to expand it from 180 to nearly 300 places.

All detention centres are trouble - for the innocent people inside and everyone who lives near them. But big detention centres are real trouble. Read more >>

Hunt saboteur awarded damages for assault by police

A hunt saboteur was awarded damages totalling £1450 in Oxford County Court on Monday 19 July 2004 after a jury found in favour of her claim against Thames Valley Police for assault. The case arose from 9 December 2000, when she was punched whilst being arrested on suspicion of having committed Aggravated Trespass at the Garth and South Berks Hunt. Read more >>

Fairford 5 trials: the State is nervous...

The Fairford 5 trials have once more exploded onto the international stage, as the Foreign Office intervenes in the court proceedings against the 'Fairford 5' - who all attempted to disable U.S B52 Bombers stationed at Fairford (Gloucestershire, U.K) in the days leading up to the illegal bombing of Iraq during March 2003.

UN warns Caterpillar may be implicated in human rights violations

**For immediate release**

On 28th May 2004 the Special Rapporteur on the right to food for the UN High Commissioner on Human Rights – Jean Ziegler – wrote to Jim Owens, CEO of Caterpillar Inc., to express deep concern "about the actions of the Israeli occupying forces in Rafah and in other locations in Gaza and the West Bank, using armoured bulldozers supplied by your company." Activist on Hunger Strike in Israeli Jail for attempting peace talks with Hamas

Irish American political activist Ken O'Keefe is on hunger strike in an Israeli jail whilst fighting deportation after being arrested for attempting to enter Gaza on Thursday. Last year, the former US Marine and Gulf War veteran returned to Iraq with more than 500 Human Shields. After entering Gaza via a settlement, he was detained by 10 Israeli soldiers whilst walking along the beach into the Palestinian area. Read more >>

Oxford Students Appeal for RAWA (Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afgha

Oxford University Students Union Women's Campaign invites fellow students to join them in a summer picnic for the women of Afghanistan on Monday 7 June in St John's College at 5 pm.
