Catch-22

Catch-22: Indymedia internet servers in London have been disappeared into U.S. custody, but we don't know where they went or who took them, as the hosting company refuses to tell us. We can't generate any corporate media interest because there are not enough facts available to make a coherent story, but unless we can generate interest we will never be able to put enough pressure on the authorities to get any facts out of them. The pictures the FBI didn't want you to see!

Here is some of the background to the FBI's extraordinary seizure of indymedia hard drives in the UK. We don't yet know why they were seized, and indymedia's provider Rackspace has been gagged. It is an interesting coincidence that the European Social Forum in London starts next week. One of the things taken off-air was 'Radio RampArt', set up to provide coverage of the ESF:  http://radio.uk1.indymedia.org:8800/rampART, still off-air when I tried. The FBI's latest anti-free-press actions began at the beginning of October when they visited Indymedia's ISP demanding the removal of identifying information from photographs of undercover police officers that was posted on the Nantes Indymedia website. Below are the relevant pictures of Swiss undercover cops, who were spying on anti-G8 activists. Read more >>

Commuter Cyclists' Triumph

Oxford Commuter Challenge 2004
The Oxford Commuter Challenge 2004 showed that for short city journeys using a car is by far the slowest way to get around – a real waste of time unless you’re carrying a heavy load. Cycling and walking are convenient, fun and healthy – and they’re actually quicker, too. At 8.15 am on 15 June, cyclists took 10 mins to cross the city, while doing the same journey by car took the same amount of time as walking. See report and photos, follow links below. Read more >>

The problem of consensuses and use of video as an outreach tool in the ESF

ESF meeting that kicked it all off
The is a problem with videoing in the alternative as the is always a small number of "conspiracy" minded people who feel that "they are out to get them" and in the majority of alt-meetings the are no clear guide lines to allow a consensus on the subject of openness/closeness, thus videoing is often band. At the ESF the are clear principals that every one involved agrees with thus a real consensuses is possible if people are interested in achieving one. At the beginning of the meeting I put to the chars a good workable proposal about filming the meetings that would have clearly respected peoples need not to be filmed for whatever reason real or imagined.
