Dave Nellist to speak at Campaign for a New Workers' Party forum

Campaign For A New Workers Party public meeting and discussion: how can we fight for a working class political voice?
7.30pm, Thursday 11th December at Oxford Town Hall.

On 11th December the Campaign for a New Workers' Party (CNWP) will be hosting a discussion in Oxford on the fight for a political voice for working class people. CNWP national chair Dave Nellist - formerly an MP for nine years and now a Socialist Party councillor and well known activist in Coventry - will be speaking on behalf of the campaign. We want to unite the strongest possible forces to build a powerful working-class party that is capable of effectively opposing the anti-union laws, cuts, privatisation, environmental degradation and war. It is vital that a new party, and any pre-party formations, be open, democratic and welcoming to all those who want to work together against the neo-liberal onslaught on the working class.

A representative of the Oxford Left Alternative along with local trade unionists and community activists will be contributing to the discussion. We invite all those interested in building a political alternative to New Labour and the struggle against the privatisation of public services, against environmental destruction, war and racism to come and discuss the way forward.

The RMT trade union has recently announced a conference to discuss the crisis in working-class political representation to take place on the 11th January next year. This is part of a growing movement nationally to build a political alternative to New Labour and the other parties of big business. In the wake of the biggest global economic crisis for fifty years, with workers in Britain facing wage cuts, job losses and repossessions, the need to build a fighting platform for an alternative agenda to that of the main three parties is bigger than ever before.

More information on the campaign can be found at www.cnwp.org.uk, with the CNWP declaration here at  http://www.cnwp.org.uk/declaration.htm.
