FASLANE 365: A YEAR-LONG BLOCKADE OF FASLANE TRIDENT SUBMARINE BASE
and organisations interested in hearing about, and mobilising for Faslane 365.
Date: Friday 3rd March
Venue: Friends Meeting House, 43 St Giles, Oxford.
Time: 7.00pm for 7.30pm
Structure: Welcome, brief introduction by Angie Zelter, questions,
answers, discussion, what next?, optional video at the end.
Faslane 365 is a new civil resistance initiative to apply critical
public pressure for the disarmament of Britain’s nuclear weapons.
Building on the success of previous mass blockades of the Trident
nuclear base at Faslane, there will be a year-long continuous peaceful blockade at Faslane near Glasgow, beginning on 1st October.
Groups from Scotland, England, Wales and beyond are being invited to come and shut down the base for at least one 48-hour period each during the year. These groups could be focussed around regions (eg Oxford), concerns (eg climate change), organisations, beliefs (eg Muslim, Christian, Jewish, pagan, atheist etc), trades (eg health workers), artistic activities (eg poets, musicians), identities (eg women) and so on… The more the merrier!
DISARM & CONVERT: As well as blockading the base, we will also be demonstrating our visions of a disarmed, just and ecologically balanced world. There is lots of scope for creativity.
Angie Zelter is a key organiser, and a good, to-the-point speaker.
Oxford should be able to get together enough people to cover one of the 48 hour periods, at least!
Come to the meeting to find out more and to get involved.
