SPEAK are currently in negotiation with Oxford City Council with a view to holding a large march and rally in the centre of Oxford this summer. The theme of the rally will be twofold. Its aim is to highlight the rights of non-human animals to live in freedom - free from pain, suffering, and exploitation; free from oppression by those motivated by greed and self-interest to brutalise sentient creatures. The rally also aims to highlight the rights of animal rights campaigners to freely oppose those who brutalise the defenceless. The movement has a more powerful voice than ever in its history, but because of its effectiveness as a force for change and its success at raising awareness, we are under attack by those that seek to benefit from the exploitation of non-human animals.
New laws are currently being pushed through Parliament, which - if they get to the statute books - will severely restrict the freedom of law-abiding citizens to campaign against that which they regard as morally and scientifically indefensible. Perversely, these new laws will only apply to animal rights campaigners. For the time being, at any rate, those campaigning against other forms of exploitation or injustice may be safe, but all the signs are that it won't be too long before the laws will be extended to include any campaign that might become too effective.
By supporting the SPEAK Freedom March & Rally you are part of a vital struggle: the fight against greed and self-interest; the fight against the brutalisation of the weak and defenceless who cannot speak for themselves. In doing so, you will also be fighting against the erosion of democratic rights in this country. Be a part of something momentous: add YOUR voice to the many who are joining us in our battle to stop vivisection in this country. SPEAK OUT FOR THE ANIMALS NOW!
Keep the date free, tell your friends to come along and let's make it a day to remember. More infomation will be posted very shortly.
