New Aldermaston nuclear W.M.D. facility rubber-stamped

West Berkshire Council has approved another multi-million pound nuclear warhead facility at the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston, England despite 1331 objections from members of the public. The new hydronamics facility, or 'Project Hydrus', will form an integral part of the £5bn+ ongoing modernisation of AWE designed to equip it for producing a new generation of nuclear warheads, with no public consultation or parliamentary scrutiny or debate. Warhead Lab Plans Prompt Blockade of Nuclear Weapons Factory

Credit: B. Larkin / Trident Ploughshares
Around twenty members and supporters of Trident Ploughshares joined a blockade and protest at one of the gates to the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston, Berkshire during this morning’s rush hour in protest at plans to build a new multi-million pound warhead testing facility at the site. Four of the activists chained themselves together with arm tubes and lay down in front of the gate for two hours, but released themselves without any of them being arrested at around 9.30am. Others stood close to them with banners, and sang songs. Many workers trying to enter the base were diverted away by Ministry of Defence police, who were in attendance; but traffic on the public highway appeared to be unaffected. Read more >>

SPEAK Demo Reports

Tuesday 12th and Thursday 14th August

Oxford Lab - September Demo Dates

www.speakcampaigns.org/diary.php#alumni
The battle to stop the building of the Oxford animal labs continues. Now more than ever it’s vitally important that the pressure is increased. A crucial element of the campaign will be to get people out onto the streets of Oxford in order to inform the public of the terrible crimes taking place against sentient creatures inside Oxford University.

Your help is vital if we are to stop this torture centre from becoming a reality. Please support as many of these protests as possible. Read more >>

SPEAK Demo Report from Oxford Labs

Police assess the damage of the crash on South Parks Rd, luckily no one was hurt
SPEAK Campaign supporters met opposite Oxford's new animal abuse lab to campaign against the University's barbaric treatment of the sentient beings who will be tortured and killed inside it, as they have done every week for the past four and a half years. Campaigners of all ages, some who have been with SPEAK from the beginning, others who have been drawn to the campaign more recently having heard the appalling truth about the horrors perpetrated against the animals imprisoned within university labs, spent the four hours of the demo informing the passing public of their opposition to vivisection at Oxford. These highly visual demos always receive much support from those passing in vehicles and on foot, and this week was no exception with gestures of support from a huge number of motorists and tourists on tour buses, and words of encouragement from pedestrians, many of whom stopped to talk to protesters and took leaflets. Ecaenia ceremony SPEAK demo report

Oxford University's annual Encaenia Ceremony, at which it hands out honorary degrees to those it deems deserving, took place on Wednesday 18th June. This is one of the most prestigious events in the university's calendar , a tradition that goes back many centuries, when it tries to impress the world with a show of pomp and ceremony. Well, the SPEAK Campaign has established its own tradition; to inform those attending such events, and the public, about what goes on behind this charade of dignity and nobility, of the appalling suffering that goes on behind the locked doors of the university's laboratories, of the animals who are sitting in cages in fear, pain and suffering while Oxford celebrates its special day.
