SPEAK Dec 19th court case Postponed

X | 18.12.2006 13:24 | Animal Liberation | Repression | Oxford

SPEAK have just heard that the contempt proceedings against Robert Cogswell and Mel Broughton which were to be heard in the High Court tomorrow, 19th December, have just been adjourned until the New Year. Such news must come as a severe blow to Oxford University who had been hoping to get SPEAK's co-founders imprisoned for nothing more that daring to SPEAK out against them.

Oxford University solicitors had desperately tried to block an adjournment, as they had hoped to put SPEAK at a disadvantage. SPEAK had argued that we have a right to be legally represented in the High Court, especially as Robert Cogswell and Mel Broughton were facing imprisonment.

Oxford University must now be reeling from the news that their attempt at running rough shod over the democratic process has failed so miserably. The hearing will now be re-scheduled probably for sometime early on in the New Year, and SPEAK will keep our supporters updated as to any new dates for the hearing.

SPEAK would like to apologise for the short notice of this announcement, but it was something that was out of our control. However, we must look on this adjournment as a positive development. For too long now Oxford University have been allowed to stamp on our democratic rights. It is hoped that today’s adjournment will mark a turning point in SPEAK's attempts at being allowed to fight on a level playing field when it comes to our civil liberties and our freedoms to speak out.

One thing is for sure: Oxford University have a fight on their hands if they believe they can imprison people just because they might not like what we have to say. The only thing that Oxford University have been able to achieve by their disgraceful behaviour is to illustrate to the world the true nature of the university.

Oxford University can rest assured that in 2007 SPEAK will be even more determined to expose the true nature of animal abuse inside the university's laboratories and SPEAK will be around until we finally consign the barbaric practice of vivisection to the history books were it truly belongs.

Thank you for all the hundreds of messages of support that the campaign has received recently. At SPEAK we very much hope that you will continue to support us. The battle is far from over. Oxford University will no doubt try more dirty tricks, but we are ready and we are waiting.

The animal rights movement is at an end. Look at what you haven't done in the last few months.........

All the ALF wankers are locked up and the few that are left are nothing.

THE END

hahaha right?

Plenty has happened in the last few months in the UK alone!

*Shops have removed fur
*Restaurants have removed foie gras
*A MAJOR lab animal transporter has refused to transport lab animals ever again
*Hunts have been succesfully disrupted
*Hundreds of people have no doubt turned vegetarian or vegan
*One of the funders of Oxford university Vodafone have had their masts repeatedly attacked
*Trucks have been torched at an egg farm
*Boar have been released into the wild where they belong
*In-store furs have been damaged so they cannot be sold
*Many prosecutions against animal rights activists have been thrown out of court

... and on and on and on

People like you HATE to see the world being effectively changed by the little people don't you?

ungovernable

THE END ?

How many AR terrorists are now enjoying a well earned rest for this Christmas and many, many more?

How many animals did the ALF kill this year?

Oxford will soon open it's new lab.

HLS are now listed on the NYSE.

Millions of turkey will be eaten today and millions of other animals are dinner.

New laws have ended home visits by cowards at night and ALF activity has drastically dropped!

Yes it's at an end.

What a sad lot

What A Sad Comment From A Sad Commenter!

A corporate media sanctioned drone(that would be YOU,the previous messenger) who embodies whats put in front of him as "news".And then thinks he's clever, and original, for stating corporate propaganda!

The ALF has no members and is an ideology based on action. So it doesn't matter how many ALFers are put in prison, the ideology will be transferred.

"How many animals have the ALF killed"? Oh dear, relyin on corporate newspapers for the "truth" really puts you to shame. The ALF,once again,is an ideology according to the guidelines which is explicitly nonviolent and protectionist of life.Keep reading The Times,Daily Mail and the Daily Telegraph because they match your inane obtuse perspective.

So the ALF is finished, are they? ALF is active in Russia,Mexico,Spain,Ireland,France,Italy etc.Finished are they? Don't think so!

AR is finished?

27.12.2006 02:11

The vivisection and factory farming industry don't think it is finished. They are very worried. Even here in New Zealand. Our Ministry of Animal Cruelty (aka Ministry of Agriculture) published a study on vegetarian behaviour in Europe and the US because vegetarians (and more importantly demi-vegetarians) are threatening the meat industry. Vivisectionists invited UK pro-vivisection propagandist Simon Festing to speak at their conference, and he was warning everyone about how insidious the AR movement is in the UK. Not just the ALF but mainstream groups like BUAV that are becomeing more media savvy and getting more donations, and engaging in nasty underhand tactics like talking to the public and handing out pamphlets.

But what I don't understand is why anyone would want to gloat even if they did think the AR movement was losing. Anyone who actually takes pleasure in millions of turkeys and pigs being tortured during our so called "season of goodwill", must be very sick individuals.

ALF down under?

04.01.2007 19:46

Mr Morris, do you remember the ALF raid where they "liberated" a litter of specially bred dogs? Do you remember what the ALF did with the litter?

Idiots looking for an ego boost that's what it's all about, an ego trip!

THE END

ALF in New Zealand

05.01.2007 23:35

Yes I do remember what the AFL did to the dogs. They handed them in to an animal sanctuary. I can even give you the name, address, contact number and name of the owner if you wish. You see, unlike you, I was there. The Manuwatu (Sub) Standard newspaper then spread the lie that the dogs were left abandoned by a river bank. Think about it. A group of people risk substantial terms in prison to rescue dogs and then leave them to a fate worse than they would suffer under the vivisectors. I don't think so.

The vivisectors were worried enough to spread their lies and slander to the Green Party, accusing perfectly respectable and even boring main stream politicians of inciting the AFL (as though they needed it), and giving false reports to the newspapers. The Upper Hutt Leader was one paper that gave a more fair report, probably because I was the local Green candidate and had established a good relationship with the journalists.

Having said that, the ALF did make a mistake with the dogs. The mistake was in firstly not knowing just how valuable the dogs were to the vivisectors. Unlike the case with rescued chickens which have little financial value, the vivisectors actually wanted the dogs back, and the police found them at the animal shelter, leaving the owner no choice but to return them. ALF also did not inform the above ground AR groups what they had done, so we had no time to prepare for the media questions, or even know what the questions might be.

ALF are not perfect, and they make mistakes. But this does not mean they are finished in New Zealand or anywhere else. Unlike the UK, where ALF have been going for 30 years are more, they are quite new here, and they have some teething problems. Nobody hears about the successful ALF raids because they do not reach the mainstream media, but you can check Indymedia NZ, if you are really interested.
