Reality TV and soaps such as EastEnders could be classed as public
service broadcasting, according to media secretary Tessa Jowell.
As the government and regulator Ofcom gear up to create a new framework
for public service broadcasting Jowell said reality shows which shed
light on human behaviour could well qualify for PSB status.
"I could certainly see that a reality-TV show that explored some
particular aspect of human behaviour could be argued for as
public-service broadcasting, with an interest that extends beyond
profits and high ratings," she told the Independent, adding that she
had watched "four episodes and many hours of ITV1’s I'm A Celebrity...
Get Me Out of Here".
She also suggested that some storylines in soaps often had a strong
public service value. "I would say that those episodes of EastEnders
that tackle difficult issues of child abuse, drug taking, teenage
pregnancy, and so forth, are actually - when they do it responsibly -
providing an important public service."
Her comments will be well received by commercial broadcasters who are
hoping for a more relaxed PSB framework under Ofcom. They have called
for an end to the "box ticking", whereby each channel is prescribed a
certain number of hours of religion, arts, and kids programming to
satisfy PSB remits.

without actually seeing it. Mind you, whoever thought that the BBC was a public service broadcaster....Now Indymedia, Deep Dish, Paper Tiger etc. these are PSBs perhaps..

IE
that this dross is all state propaganda and 'normality programming'
I wonder what plotline will be invoked into Eastenders?
[place usual scapegoats here]
The fact that Peter Andre is no 1 says it all really!!!!
line up and receive your medication via cathode ray emanations...
A great quote i saw once was from a person who lived through the soviet years:
i'm paraphrasing here:
"It was propaganda...but you KNEW it was propaganda, so you could let it wash over you
and you could ignore it...the thing about the west is, that everything is a symbol of
'freedom' so it is far harder to tell what is propaganda and what isn't..."
and another quote from an astute schoolkid interviewed on the telly about sweets:
"...they're not good for you, but they're nice...
so you enjoy them..."
sums it all up I thought

we will need to in the coming years be able to reverse engineer everything from
nano technology to entertainment and the growin hegemony of 'normality culture'
that the globalists are foisting on us as 'freedom'...
from virus...[bio-chem] to virus [meme/propaganda]
inner and outer space MUST be reclaimed...
that's just my personal reason [excuse] for keeping my TV!!!!!

Anyway, here's a list of decent programming on that little black box of yours:
*Jeremy Clarkson
*Enterprise
*Question Time
*Horizon
*Football
*Documentry about Coppers Arresting Drunk People (i forgot the name)
*Gamecentral
*DVD Players
That's about it.
Spock
** Jeremy Clarkson?????*** !!!! ??? ***

*Enterprise - If it's star trek then I can't be bothered. Prefer some real Sci-fi.
*Question Time - worthwhile.
*Horizon - worthwhile although haven't seen it for years. Is it still on?
*Football - just a game.
*Documentry about Coppers Arresting Drunk People (i forgot the name) - no idea what you're on about.
*Gamecentral - never heard of it.
The Panorama programme on Zimbabwe (Sunday) was excellent. I bet it beats anything on Sky by a mile.
Although the BBC was biased in favour of the war on Iraq so it's not all good.
It would be good if we could get some real competition in television - I don't want any of that Sky/Murdoch rubbish.

Football is more than just a game. (fans will not need me to explain this) 'Documentry about Coppers Arresting Drunk People', was a program on BBC1 the other night where the police go around 'nicking' drunken yobs who get into fights and attack people in the streets. 'Tis was quite interesting. Gamecental is a poplular Games Forum on Channel 4 teletext.
As for Captain Wardrobe, also known as Cheryl Seal us that are clever enough, can shut his/her/its mouth. No one is debating on Indymedia at the moment. I don't know were everyone is, but no one seems to be commenting on anything these days. I might deliberately make a completely radical article to get people's mouths open, and to start a big debate.
Until then we will have to debate these insignificant subjects until we all go and get drunk, fight with each other and get arrested.
That was a long comment. Will anyone bother to read it??????????!!!!!!!!!!??!!!??!!??? Yes i will shut up now

And I feel that I did actually raise some serious points such as pollution and the domination of the competition in television by Murdoch's Sky. Certainly in the area I live the only alternative to free television is to pay for a package including Sky channels. I can't support it I'm afraid.
In response to the comment about Clarkson's comedy value. Yes okay, he makes jokes at the expense of the environment! Very funny. The planet is burning up because of global warming.

Meet Cheryl Seal, investigative journalist whom you have read online. Cheryl has a lot to say, and her most famous piece to date was "The Smoking Gun" and an article comparing Bush to Hitler. Cheryl talks about the difficulties of true journalists, and why they MUST continue despite lack of support/funds. Cheryl hasn't sat back and said nothing, that's for sure. She was one of the first people to write about the Cipro/Bayer/Merck/Anthrax connection. She was one of the first to write on the stolen election in 2000; the complicity of our govt in 9/11; the greed that permeates every aspect of American politics. Today we converse about lots of topics, including Ralph Nader; daisycutters and their effect on earthquakes; problems facing all Americans; why the media covers up the truth; Americans in the dark; and her name for Ari Fleischer "The Egg with Eyebrows". Fun, friendly, yet very informative conversation between two women who share a lot of views and can differ as well. Read her work at:

Cheryl is a true fan of the environment and a very interesting, outspoken, brave woman.

Your corn rapes my eyes. You are so socially aware that you are not even part of society. No-one knows what you are about.your function has been limited even when you have economic and technological superiority behind you. You are the cause of your own alienation. You are part of your own self-oiling machinery. You are so rebellious, but you too are a symbol of a 'cultured' 'tradition'. Cocky and so concerned...you cleverly master your chosen medium and manipulate it to your own egotistical needs. you 'like' what you do.you like the 'way' you do it. you want to be a 'success'...you want to be noticed...loved and adored...to be a part of 'it'...In the end, however, it is you and I, who after all our trying and dying...remain no different to the factory workers we once hoped we'd never be.... The product you see before you is a lie. I perversly find the stealing and re-juvenating of culture an oh so clever way of covering up truth with lies... Rebel against you physical ability to control the tools of your culture. Deny yourself a systematic approach and a way of working.... STEALING AND LYING ARE THE ONLY TRUE VIRTUES OF ARTISTS
We steal when we refer...we lie to ourselves and others through our mediums appearance...There is no room for error as narrow, stylistic individualism becomes our trademark... People are supposed to like our our work in order to place us in the secular society of our choice... WE ARE KRILL WE DESIRE TO BE CONSUMED WE EXIST BECAUSE YOU DESIRE OUR EXCREMENT IS BEAUTIFUL , BUT HARMLESS. INGEST US WITH YOUR NEED. market saturation process... what are you doing? the following site contents represents an attempt to create a 'free market saturation process' reacting against the metamorphosis of creative culture into the instigation/ patronization of various passive mind-wash scenarios... MAKE YOUR OWN MIND UP! is high culture just a 'puzzle', a code that is cheaply thrown down for us to decipher? does it represent a stylized vacuum which is un/re/de/created purely for profit and of which consequentially affect "society"...is 'low culture' defined by forced polarity to this? puzzle money oils the machinery that has become 'popular culture' and is 'kept alive' (perpetuated) via media/ political beaurocratic social structures... WE ARE PRODUCTS OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND IT IS ONE OF CO-OPERATIVE/CORPORATE SOCIAL CONTROL... Can REAL Free existence therefore lead to social exclusion...???? should culture cost money? many purchased entities are labeled "if you are not completely satisfied with this product..." relish/celebrate/atomically wobble within the possibility that nothing can or ever will satisfy you... Be proud of this disappointment and that you are willingly participating in the linguistic memetic phenomena's /buzzwords/ signifiers such as: 'progressive', 'modern' and 'culture'

Cheryl Seals pointless rants have actually in fact been generally barred by Indymedia admins because of the fact its just a rant with no evidence. EVEN if we agree with her, its not an article, its not news, its just rubbish. My dog can write a better argument than her. I would like to praise the Admins for there sterling work in deleting this trash from the newswires. Your doing a great job keeping the principles of the editorial guidelines from being broken.
As for Wardrobe (Seal), swearing will not help you make your point. Some of us want to engage into some INTELLGENT arguments, not insult sessions. True, arguments over Jeremy Clarkson are not really that important, but its something to argue about until we get an article that sets off a massive debate.
I am working on this (thinking of ideas) right now.
Now to go and listen to some Maiden.
