Stop Vivisection - New Campaign against Oxford University

NEW FRONT TO OPEN UP IN THE FIGHT AGAINST VIVISECTION!

After our success against Cambridge University in stopping the proposed
plans for Europe's largest primate centre, the SPEAC (Stop Primate
Experiments at Cambridge) campaign has decided to open up a new front
in the
fight against vivisection.

SPEAK Campaigns PRESS RELEASE: Thursday 26th February.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The campaign group SPEAC has reformed itself under the title SPEAK -
The
Voice For The Animals. Our next campaign will be waged against Oxford
University who intend to build a new £16 million animal research centre
in
South Parks Rd.

We have received information from a source well placed within Oxford
University that for a number of months Oxford and Cambridge University
have
been in consultation with a view of transferring part of what was
proposed
to take place at Cambridge over to the centre currently under
construction
in Oxford.

The new centre will be situated next to the Experimental Psychology and
Zoology Departments connected by a high level walkway. Both departments
are
well known for the experiments they conduct on primates and we believe
that
the 4th floor of this new centre will be used for primate research.

Plans are already in place to implement measures that will
significantly
reduce the effective working of the builders of the new centre Walter
Lilly
and their parent company, the Montpellier Group and Oxford University.
These
will be put into action by SPEAK should Oxford University fail to heed
our
calls to scrap their plans for this research centre.

Our last campaign against Cambridge University was conducted using
legal
means. We will be continue using this strategy but will now include
those
companies that are helping to build this centre. We are offering a
warning
to all those concerned either pull out of this construction or face a
concerted campaign against both yourselves and your customers.

As part of our campaigning strategy we will be challenging the
government
and government-aided institutions. To date, the government has avoided
significant exposure for its failure to meet its pre-election promises
regarding their animal rights agenda, nor have they been sufficiently
challenged for their undemocratic governing approach within a
democratic
country.

We will also be challenging the lies peddled by successive Governments
and
the vivisection industry that vivisection helps people. We will be
asking
for a public debate to be held to present expert arguments against
animal
experiments and to demonstrate that the SPEAK campaign is as much about
saving human lives as it is about non-human lives. We aim to present
the
public with the true facts so that they can make an informed choice
about
the subject.

The centre now being built is the dream of people like Lord Sainsbury
and
Colin Blakemore, both with a vested interest in the continuation of
animal
research in this country. However the SPEAK campaign will not allow
vested
interests to dictate the future blueprint for the expansion of
vivisection
in this country and all legal means necessary will be adopted to make
sure
that the cost of building this centre will be very high indeed.

I totally agree that the new animal lab shouldnt be built. In every undercover operation in animal labs there has been evidence of animal abuse, eg...punching Beagle puppies in the face and smashing animals heads on workbenches until they are dead...for fun! These are the type of people that work in animal labs. Also it has been proved that certain animal labs have falsified medical results to get drugs onto the market. These people are only interested in making money. Why dont we have animal labs with glass walls? Its all done behind closed doors in secret. Animal tests are only done to get new drugs onto the market and kill thousands of people every year due to the fact that animals are too different from humans. Human skin tissue is just one way forward which will give more positive results.
