About the Yanomami
The Yanomami Indians have been living in Brazil for thousands of years. During
the 1970s and 1980s, they suffered much from Brazilian goldminers who invaded
their land. In about seven (7) years, 20% of the Yanomami had died. After 20
years of campaigning by Survival International and CCPY, a Yanomami support
organisation, land was demarcated for a Yanomami Park. But there are still
problems, such as increasing militarization of their land.
