With a fresh batch of 'secret' Wikileaks on Sri Lanka out yesterday, the 'private' visit of Dr. Liam Fox to Sri Lanka, as arranged for this weekend, is canceled.
Questions have been raised in UK parliament on the content of the 'private' meeting the Defence secretary had with Mahinda Rajapakse in the Oliver Messel Suite of the Dorchester Hotel in London, 1st December 2010.

President Rajapakse in the Hillary Term

Sri Lankan Government spokesman and Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella at the Cabinet Decision Media Conference held at the Information Department auditorium yesterday said that a new President was appointed to the Oxford Union since the term of the former President James Kingston ended the following day President Mahinda Rajapaksa was scheduled to address the Union.

"Outside the Law: Stories from Guantánamo." - New documentary on UK tour

Focuses on prisoners whose torture has been exposed by UK courts and is being investigated by police

Former prisoner Omar Deghayes and journalist Andy Worthington will be speaking at screenings across the country

"Outside the Law: Stories from Guantánamo" is a new documentary film, directed by filmmaker Polly Nash and journalist Andy Worthington (author of The Guantánamo Files). The film focuses on the stories of three particular prisoners - Shaker Aamer (who is still held), Binyam Mohamed (released in 2009) and Omar Deghayes (released in 2007) - and the tour coincides with a mounting scandal involving British complicity in torture, which focuses on Shaker Aamer and Binyam Mohamed.

Peace women defeat Ministry of Defence in freedom to protest case

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) byelaw banning camping outside the Atomic Weapons Establishment Aldermaston was quashed by the court of appeal today. The case, heard on 26th November 2008, was an appeal in the Judicial Review of the Secretary of State for Defence's decision to introduce byelaws which would have criminalised camping as a form of peaceful protest.

Emergency Vigil for Syria

US Special forces have attacked a Syrian town near the Iraq border, killing at least 8 people, including children, and wounding 14 others. This attack follows strikes on Pakistan earlier in the month. The Oxford Stop the War Coalition is organising an emergency protest. It will be at 6.00pm at Cornmarket (Carfax end) on Tuesday 28 October.

A major blockade and protest is underway of the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE) at Aldermaston near Reading to mark UN Disarmament Week.
