Census refuser court update: CPS drops some cases

NoCONcensus | 11.05.2012 08:03 | 2011 Census Resistance | Anti-militarism | Repression | Birmingham | Liverpool | Oxford

An update on some of the court cases involving those who refused to complete the 2011 Census on anti-war and anti-surveillance grounds amongst others. Many objections were directly related to arms manufacturer Lockheed Martin's contract to process census data. The CPS has started dropping cases. This is the latest information we have. Please get in touch if you have more up-to-date info on any of these cases (or others).

Makes sense

for the CPS to drop these absurd cases, which are clearly not in the public intrest and cannot justify the cost to the public purse in going through lengthy court process to secure a conviction that is a financial penalty and if people refuse to pay the fine a very short prison sentence of a Home Detention Curfew. All extra money from the public purse on a census which was the last one anyway. After all, the sate has our details anyway and can get extra from loyalty cards, bank and of course our internet usage.
Sensible news.
