Oxford Public Meeting on new animal lab

Speak Campaigns | 02.11.2004 22:15 | Animal Liberation | Oxford

A public meeting is being held on Thursday, 4th November at 7pm in Oxford Town Hall to discuss the new animal labs being built by the University on South Parks Road in the city. Entrance is free to all.

Speakers include local and national campaigners, scientists, representatives from political parties and hopefully a spokesperson for Oxford University itself.

Everyone is welcome.

BACKGROUND
Oxford University is planning to build a massive new research centre in the heart of their science area in South Parks Road, to carry out experiments on animals.

They claim their research is necessary, but in seeking to justify the laboratory, the University has lied repeatedly to the people of Oxford. The truth is, that the purpose behind the current expansion in the vivisection industry is to increase the profits of the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

Please come along to this very important meeting and have your say; this is an opportunity for the residents of Oxford as well as the students and workers at the University to finally hear the truth about the laboratory and about the wider issues of vivisection.

Everyone is welcome - Come and discover the disturbing truth behind Oxford University's cruel deception.

where were the people from the Uni?

Everyone had a chance to say their piece at the Public Meeting, whether they were pro the lab or against it so why didnt the University show up? At the start of the meeting, one of the speakers on the board said all people were encouraged to give their views and anybody causing any trouble from either "side" would be escorted from the premises by the door staff. Did the University think that they wouldnt have the answers as to why this lab is being built. If I was convinced this lab was being built for human health, I wouldve been there no matter what. What are they hiding? They seem scared if you ask me.
